Effective depositions are critical to success in litigation. This program will offer practical techniques and strategies on taking and defending depositions in both the Federal and State Courts of New Jersey. Our faculty expert will provide guidance on what you need to know about deposition practice from the preliminary planning stages to the use of deposition testimony at trial. Topics include:
• deposition timing: planning and strategy
• deposition subpoenas
• depositions under Fed.R.Civ.P. 30(b)(6)
• protective orders
• witness preparation and preserving privileges
• examination techniques
• handling exhibits
• witness conferences during examination
• objections and instructions not to answer
• managing conflict
• transcript review/errata sheets
• use of deposition testimony at hearings and trials
NJ CLE Information: This program has been approved by the Board on Continuing Legal Education of the Supreme Court of New Jersey for 3.0 hours of total CLE credit. This program also qualifies for 3.0 hours of credit for NJ civil/criminal trial preparation for NJ newly admitted lawyers.

Mr. Gardner has been representing clients in the federal and state courts for more than thirty-five years in complex commercial, construction and environmental litigation, class actions, product liability claims, employment restrictive covenant disputes, and trade secret litigation. He is also an adjunct professor at Rutgers Law School teaching Civil Litigation Strategy.
