Introduction to Landlord/Tenant Law for Pro Bono Attorneys
Tuesday, October 22, 2019 | 9:00 AM EDT - 11:15 AM EDT
Registration for this program is now closed. Please see the full listing for upcoming IPE programs. |
This program will prepare attorneys who have had little or no experience in landlord/tenant matters to competently and comfortably represent indigent or low income families facing eviction. The training will provide an overview of the New Jersey landlord/tenant law and relevant court rules and procedures, and will offer practical information about common defenses, settlement negotiations, and preparing for court.
Each year, tens of thousands of eviction complaints are filed in Essex County alone; a vast majority of the defendants in those cases are unrepresented. Tenants facing eviction often have defenses available to them that they don’t even know about. The presence of an attorney can be life changing, especially for low-income tenants and their families.
FEE WAIVED FOR ATTORNEYS WHO AGREE TO TAKE ONE FULL REPRESENTATION CASE THROUGH VOLUNTEER LAWYERS FOR JUSTICE OVER THE NEXT YEAR. If you intend to volunteer, please indicate so by applying promo code PROBONO686. If you cannot fulfill you commitment, you will be billed for the CLE credits.
