The Basics of Consumer Debt Defense

Rutgers Institute for Professional Education and Volunteer Lawyers for Justice invite you to attend this program, which will focus on consumer debt defense in New Jersey, including an overview of common debt collection practices and the debt buyer system. The program, specifically geared towards attorneys who do not normally do this type of work, will focus on the basics of defending debt collection cases in New Jersey’s Special Civil Part.
Topics will include:
• Vacating default judgments
• Drafting motions
• Timelines and court processes
• Post-judgment relief
• Client interviews
• Preparing clients for trial
FEE WAIVED FOR ATTORNEYS WHO AGREE TO TAKE ONE FULL REPRESENTATION CASE OR WHO VOLUNTEER AT TWO LIMITED SCOPE LEGAL CLINICS OVER THE NEXT YEAR. If you intend to volunteer, please bring your registration confirmation to the program and the fee waiver will be processed when you sign in.
