Ethics and Mediation: Challenges Involving Ethics and Impasse

This course will address the potential ethical challenges facing mediators focusing primarily on civil mediation. Mediator standards will be featured and dissected in role plays and case studies reflective of actual scenarios encountered by mediators.

Topics include:

• Self-determination and active facilitation in harmony
• Case management function of mediator in addressing ethics concerns
-Mediation case summaries illustrative of this tension
-Interactive training video featuring best practices of mediation
• Mediator Standards: Common power imbalances
• Mediator Ethics: Role play and Debriefing
• Advocacy and Ethics within Mediation: Skills Exercises
