Resolving Post-Release Issues for Clients with Criminal Convictions

This program will provide both Criminal and Civil law practitioners with practical ways to deal with common collateral civil issues facing criminal defendants. The program will address best practices for handling child support warrants, arrearages, and paternity issues; specific municipal court issues, such as warrants for failure to appear and lapsed time payments; and facilitating restoring clients’ drivers licenses.

Topics include:
- Introduction to municipal court
- Handling failures to appear and time payments
- Introduction to child support
- Drafting the motion and practical tips
- Driver’s license restoration
- Rules of Professional Conduct 2.1, 3.3, 4.1, 4.3, 4.4 and 8.4

NJ CLE Information: This program has been approved by the Board on Continuing Legal Education of the Supreme Court of New Jersey for 3.4 hours of total CLE credit, including 1.2 ethics credits. This program also qualifies for 2.2 hours of credit for NJ municipal court practice for NJ newly admitted lawyers.
FACULTY:
William R. McLaughlin, Esq. Mr. McLaughlin is a sole practitioner in Philadelphia and South Jersey. Before starting his own practice, Mr. McLaughlin served as managing attorney for the Federal Prisoner Reentry Clinic at Rutgers Law School and as a staff attorney at South Jersey Legal Services
