This highly interactive training provides a firm foundation in the journey of becoming an effective Civil Mediator. Taught at Rutgers Law School in Camden by a veteran mediator and trainer, participants will engage in realistic role plays and skill building exercises with other attorneys and law students to hone existing skills and cultivate new techniques effective in assisting parties move toward resolution.
Particular emphasis is given to effective case management and mediator standards. There will be guest speakers, including lawyers/judges experienced in mediation, to provide additional practical perspectives to participants. This training meets the 40 hour NJ Superior Court core training requirement for application to its roster of civil mediators.
Topics include:
• Negotiations overview and introduction to mediation
• Mediation basics
• Mediation challenges involving ethics and impasse
• Mediation of complex matters
• Mediation practice: The requirements and realities
NJ CLE Information: This program has been approved by the Board on Continuing Legal Education of the Supreme Court of New Jersey for 42.0 hours of total CLE credit including 6.3 ethics hours.
