Representing Survivors of Human Trafficking: What Attorneys Need to Know

This program will provide an overview of human trafficking in the United States, including relevant federal and state laws. The program will focus on the myriad of legal needs survivors often face post-trafficking, including criminal record clearing, name change assistance, family law issues, and immigration matters. Attendees will learn best practices for working with survivors of trauma, including interviewing techniques and an overview of complex trauma. Topics will include:
• Human Trafficking: Myths vs. Facts
• New Jersey’s Human Trafficking Prevention, Protection, and Treatment Act
• Legal Needs of Trafficking Survivors
• Doing the Work
o Interviewing and working with trauma survivors
o Collecting supporting documents
o Best practices
