Welcome the Wretched: In Defense of the "Criminal Alien" (Newark in-person)
Wednesday, March 6, 2024 | 5:00 PM EST - 6:00 PM EST
This program features César Cuauhtémoc García Hernández, the Gregory H. Williams Chair in Civil Rights and Civil Liberties at Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. García Hernández will talk about his recently published book Welcome the Wretched: In Defense of the “Criminal Alien.” He counters the fundamental assumption that criminal activity has a rightful place in immigration matters, arguing that instead of using the criminal legal system to identify people to deport, the United States should place a reimagined sense of citizenship and solidarity at the center of immigration policy.
