Experienced litigators from the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) will use a variety of methods to discuss the need for civility in how lawyers interact with each other. Experienced litigators will use video clips and discussion for an introduction to the relevant guidelines and rules requiring civility. They will also discuss why changing the current culture is so important to our profession. Additional video clip examples with panel and participant instruction will create a lively discussion of the civility standards, law, and aspirational standards that our profession should adhere to.
Topics include:
• The importance of civility in the practice of law
• The legal basis for civility
• The application of the law and standards to attorney behavior
• Question and answer period
